"We made our first motorcycle boots for the Police...for the old 'Goldtop' company. The Goldtop boots were the iconic 50s biking boots...and I think all bikers my age remember them as part of that golden era of British Bikes.
"By 1990 however things had changed...although they looked brilliant the Goldtop boots had problems...the zip at the back. First it wore a hole in your sock, then it wore a hole in your heel. They had no waterproofing and to keep your feet warm in winter you had to wear at least two or three pairs of socks...so you always had to buy the boots at least a size too big to fit the extra socks. Then in summer with only one pair of socks your feet slid around and they felt like oversize wellies passed down to you through the generations.
"The Police wanted something more functional but not flashy...so we made the Clubman Classic, and then the Tourer as a short boot...The Police thought they were a big improvement but everyone...including me... still misses the old Goldtop boot and that golden era of British bikes...happy days.

P.S. my first bike was a 98cc Excelsior. I was thirteen years old and illiegal!!! It's like remembering your first illicit love...happy days!
