The Yan TanⓇ Boot

Increased Breathability and lightness with a medium level of waterproofing.

2-3 Season – All Terrain Use, fitting is A-FormeⓇ ergonomic.

Boot Selection - Levels of Waterproofing

All the key Altberg® walking boot styles have a Sympatex® waterproof lining, however, the nubuck/fabric outer/upper of the Yan Tan boot is not waterproof.

The Yan Tan is designed to give increased breathability and lightness along with a medium level of waterproofing.

Two key issues for sustaining waterproofing are:

1. In wet conditions always wear gaiters.

2. Regular sustained treatment of the outer leather and stitching with Leder Gris®

If your main requirement is waterproofing:

Our leather boots are more suited to wet conditions and the heavier less flexilbe boots will sustain their waterproofing longer than our lightweight more flexible boots - i.e. Mallerstang will have a higher level of sustained waterproofing than Fremington.

Yan-Tan 2-3 Season Lightweight Ergonomic A-FormeⓇ All Terrain Boot

The Yan TanⓇ boot is a strong 2-3 season lightweight boot.  The upper is a combination of Nubuck and Kevlar fabric, and the design of the boot gives excellent ankle support on rough terrain.  The last/fitting is the new ergonomic A-FormeⓇ, which allows the foot to take up its natural alignment in the boot, whilst supporting the arch and instep during the walking gait.

The midsole is Tri-flex® 3 season, with good torsional resistance and resistance to flex on rough terrain.  The sole is Vibram Tsavo, with a shock absorbing micro midlayer to give heel strike cushioning on rough terrain.  Lining is Sympatex® waterproof breathable bootee construction.

Leather: Nubuck – water repellent 2.4mm, full grain, top quality grade A European hide

Fabric: Nylon/Kevlar/Polyester mix – specially developed for high quality boots in use on mountainous, rough terrain

Lining: Sympatex®, waterproof, breathable bootee construction

Midsole: Tri -flex® 3 season, rough terrain support

Sole: Vibram® Tsavo/Micro – lightweight with shock absorbing micro midlayer, and full rubber scuff resistant rand

Sizes: 4-14 (inc ½ sizes)

Widths: Medium/Wide – ergonomic A-Forme last

Weight: 650gms (size 9)

Height: 15.8cms (size 9, including heel)

You can treat the upper with either  or Leder- BökⓇ or Leder GrisⓇ.

Leder GrisⓇ

Will completely change the look of the boot it will darken and seal the leather and fabric and the boot will be less breathable but it will increase the level of waterproofness.

Leder-Bök – a specially formulated boot care for suede/fabric/nubuck boots

May darken the nubuk but generally the appearance and breathability of the boot will remain unchanged. The level of waterproofing will not be significantly increased.

Colour – clear (but it may darken the suede or nubuck)

Follow instructions given on back of spray bottle.

Nubuck/suede does not have to be completely dry before applying Leder- Bök.  Leder- Bök has been developed so that it may be applied to damp boots

If nubuck/suede is constantly going through a cycle of wet and dry, or if there are signs of ‘ hardening’, apply a good coating of Leder- Bök, especially in the areas where the boot flexes – then cover with a damp cloth until the Leder- Bök soaks in.

TOP TIP 1: In a hot climate, you must slow down the rate at which the boot dries out – this can be done by putting a damp cloth over the boots once you have taken them off

TOP TIP 2: Leder- Bök will help keep suede or nubuck supple, it acts to restore oils in the suede, so use it regularly, especially in areas where the boot is flexing

TOP TIP 3: In a hot climate, cover the boots with a damp cloth after applying Leder- Bök – this will allow more time for it to soak into the suede/nubuck
