Boot Fitting Advice & Options

All Altberg boots can be resoled at the factory on the original lasts - the main thing is to keep the uppers in good condition. At our factory in Richmond we see boots which are over ten years old and on their 3rd or 4th resole! We also see boots which are less than one year old and beyond repair.

The difference is the care of the upper and of course the harshness of the environment in which the boots have been used. If the boot leather is in good condition then when the time comes the boots will be well worth a resole.

It's good economically - it's good environmentally - it’s good for comfort - why break in a new pair of boots?

All Altberg boots can be resoled using the original lasts at the factory in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

You can either drop your boots off at the factory shop, or post them to the factory address - please include a filled out copy of the resole for which you can download at the bottom of the page.

If there are any problems with the boots, we will adivse of this before going ahead with the work.

For full details of the factory resole service, or to check the current lead time please contact the factory.

Replacing the Rubber Rand

Standard Height Rand

Standard Height Rand

Replacing the rubber rand can only be done when the boots re being resoled

There is a choice of two rands -

  • Standard height rand
  • Extra high rand

Extra High Rand

Extra High Rand

An extra high rand may sometimes be necessary to extend the rubber to the less worn leather above the old sole or rand line

3 reasons for choosing to resole

1 Environment

If the upper and linings are in good condition then resoling will extend the life of the boot.

2 Comfort

Your old boot will have already adapted to you personal footshape - New leather boots may require a period of walking in.

3 Economical

A re-sole is much cheaper then the cost of a new boot - if the upper and linings are ok then a re-sole is a relatively inexpensive way to extend the life of your boots.

All Altberg boots can be resoled providing the uppers and linings are in good condition.

For full details of resole service contact the Factory direct.

Note - Boots which have been resoled may have a limited life - the uppers and linings will already be fairly well worn - so a resole will not 'double' the life of the boots, but if the uppers and linings are in good condition then a resole is a worthwhile investment.
