Boot Fitting Advice & Options

"We make boots and shape them onto the last (footshape) using steam and heat. Many years ago we realised that it was possible to alter the boots after they had been made by using the same process of heat and steam. We started to use this as an inexpensive way of occasionally making alterations to a standard boot to help customers with minor fitting issues - mainly bunions, heel spurs and ‘pushing in’ of the small toe."

Custom fitting has it's limitations especially in the toe box area of the boot - but it is very cost effective and perfectly adequate for many less extreme boot fitting problems. Custom fitting does not require a last or patterns to be made to a customers specific foot dimensions.

NOTE- A 100% fit cannot be guaranteed, but there should be an improvement in fit. The customer must commit to purchase before we alter a boot

what we can do to help improve fitting

Mark up

The boots are marked where the alterations are to be made.

Mark Up

Steam

The specific area to be reshaped is steamed to soften the leather ready for moulding.

Steam

Mould

The forefoot of the boot is remoulded using a boot shaping machine or a slightly modified last (note—if a modified last is used it must remain in the boot for 24 hours).

Mould

Re-Steam

The forefoot may also be remoulded by re-steaming and using a shaped rubbing bar. Or by inserting a slightly modified last (note—if a modified last is used it must remain in the boot for 24 hours).

Re-Steam

Heel Spurs

For heel spurs we use a specially designed ‘spur pliors’. The position of the heel spur is marked on the outside of the boot, then the heel is steamed and remoulded around the spur area using heel spur pliers.

Instep

The instep areas of motorcycle boots can be altered using an instep moulding machine whilst steaming the boot instep. The boot remains in the machine for at least 2 hours, and we continue to steam.
