Boot Fitting Advice & Options

Fitting motorcycle boots for foot length and width is the same as for walking or military boots, however with motorcycle boots other measurements around the instep and leg must also be considered.

Most of Altberg’s motorcycle boots are designed for touring or police use - not as heavy and stiffened as motocross boots, but stronger and more substantial than racing type boots, so there are some points of difference to be aware of if making the transition from racing type boots to touring boots.

Altberg boots normally require a period of ‘walking or riding in’ and it can take a little time to get used to the ‘feel’ of the boot when changing gears.

NOTE - There are extra charges for any extra work we may do during manufacture (instep adjustments / hand cut boot legs etc.)

MOTORCYCLE BOOT FITTING

both toes on the ground

Some of our boots are fitted with a thicker sole (PU or Micro soles).

If your toes can't quite touch the ground, these soles may help.

NOTE - With a thicker sole the gear change may require upward adjustment.

REINFORCED MIDSOLE

Altberg boots are stiffer and less flexible than many racing type boots, to give increased foot protection and resistance to sideways crushing.

DEEPER TOE BOX

This enables a 5mm removable footbed to be fitted inside the boot, which improves ventilation and air circulation. NOTE gear change lever may need to be adjusted to accommodate the deeper toe box.

ALTERING GEAR CHANGE HEIGHT

Altering gear change height is not unusual in order to match the gear change and boot. NOTE a small change can make a large difference, so adjust and try until you have both comfort and acceptable gear change contact.

The micro soles we use are thicker than our standard sole, so they give an extra 2-3mm, however, gear change will need more adjustment, so check your bike to see if this is possible.
