Online Boot Sizing & Fitting Advice

We successfully supply many boots online. There will always be an element of uncertainty about sizing but we have found the following advice works for approximately 90% of our online customers.

Medium/wide feet - go up 1/2 size on your SHOE size (to allow for thicker socks with boots). Narrow feet - stick with your SHOE size.

If you have a history of boot or shoe fitting problems it's best not to order online. You'll need to visit the factory for a fitting assessment. Contact the factory in advance - for an appointment with one of our senior boot fitters.

Lacing Up Boots

Correct Method

Lacing gap over instep may enhance comfort.

Push heel to back of boot before lacing firmly, but not too tightly over the instep.

Never lace around the leg.

Correct Method

Tuck Away Lace Ends

Tuck away lace ends, either inside the boot or through the lacing.

Tuck lace ends into tongue pocket - if there is one fitted on your model of boot.

Tuck Away Lace Ends

Fully Unlaced

Always fully unlace. Make sure the lace in the locking 'D' ring is fully undone.

Too much force when putting on, or taking off boots could tear the lining or damage the 'D' ring fastening.

Choice of Socks

Altberg recommends good quality Merino wool socks. Merino is best quality wool which will breathe and absorb to enhance all day comfort. Check socks regularly to ensure they are still well padded and absorbent.

Online & Mail Order T&C's

Boots must be returned in absolute brand new condition ready to go back into stock. If boots are not in absolute brand new condition, complete with packaging, labels, etc. then credit, exchange, or full refund may not be possible. NOTE: this doesn't just mean not wearing them outside - if the boots are worn too long inside then they will show signs of leather creasing and wear.

Altberg do not refund postage on boots returned for fit or suitability and the customer is responsible for the return costs of the boots to the factory for exchange, credit or refund. Altberg do a reduced postage rate for exchange boots sent back out to the customer (where return is for fit or suitability).

On non-standard boots made to a customer's specific requirements boots will usually be non-refundable for fit or suitability. This clause relates to made to measure, custom fitting, custom made or any boots using non-standard materials or designs not forming part of the current product range. If you have any doubt, please discuss this with the Altberg boot fitters before placing an order.
